What does ADAS stand for?
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System. Vehicles ADAS sensors control technologies like lane keep assist, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, blind spot detection, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, vehicle surroundings, and adaptive cruise control are commonplace. These are just some advanced systems that provide driver assistance and other standard road safety features.
What is static & dynamic calibration?
Static ADAS calibration requires a specialized setting where the car must remain stationary during the calibration process and pieces of calibration equipment are used. Dynamic ADAS calibration is performed while the technician drives the vehicle for a certain distance and speed during optimal weather conditions. With a device connected to the vehicle’s diagnostic port, the camera is calibrated by reading the lines on the road and street signs.
How often should re-calibrations be performed?
In most cases, ADAS calibration is recommended after the vehicle’s sensors are disrupted or there is a windshield replacement. For the ADAS system to work correctly, the cameras sensors should be calibrated to ensure that they align with the vehicle. ADAS calibration is essential for keeping the road safe. If a re-calibration is not performed, these safety systems will not be able to detect changes in driving conditions properly.

IT’S ONLY A SMALL CRACK. CAN I WAIT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED?

No. You really shouldn’t delay. The windshield is an important structural element of your car. If weakened due to damage, it will not provide optimal protection in an accident. Many small chips or surface cracks only affect the outer layer of the windshield, so it can be mended before it gets any worse — and then it may require more time and money to fix.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GLASS IN A WINDSHIELD AND OTHER WINDOW GLASS?

Auto glass is designed and manufactured for optimum safety in the event of a crash. Your windshield is made of laminated safety glass. The side and rear windows are made of tempered glass. Laminated safety glass is two pieces of glass with a layer of vinyl sandwiched between, so it will stay intact in a collision. Tempered glass has been treated to make it much stronger than other glass of the same thickness. If it breaks, it is designed to shatter into small pieces.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO REPAIR/REPLACE MY WINDSHIELD?

To repair a small crack or ding (without replacing the entire windshield) takes about 30 minutes. Length of service will vary for a complete windshield replacement, most vehicles’ windshields can be replaced within 3 hours

WHAT DO I HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT ADHESIVES?

When considering a windshield replacement always ask the facility or even the technician that will be doing the work on your vehicle, “What is the cure time or “Safe Drive Time” of the urethane that will be being used?”

At Glass Services, we use ONLY Sika Tack Cool, which is a 1 hour cure time or “Safe Drive Time”. Our technicians have also been certified by the adhesive manufacturers in proper use of adhesives and adhesive primers.
